Potions Lesson 2: Acroama Elixir Empty
PostSubject: Potions Lesson 2: Acroama Elixir   Potions Lesson 2: Acroama Elixir EmptyFri Dec 11, 2009 9:30 am

As the students entered the classroom, the sound of a beautiful symphony filled their ears. Their eyes darted back and forth scanning the room looking for the source of such beautiful music. However, the more they looked, the less successful they seemed. There were no creatures of song nor any sort of music box. The sound just seemed to be floating in the air like the oxygen that filled their lungs.

“Professor,” asked a tall Ravenclaw boy “Where is the music coming from? What is it?”

Instantly Professor PheonixFyre walked over to her desk and popped a small, wooden cork onto the mouth of a dark gray bottle. Instantly the music seemed to fade into nothingness. It was only evident to the students then that the source of the music was coming from the tiny potion sitting on their professor's desk.

“Today, class, we will be learning all about the . This is a beautiful little potion that's only true purpose is to create beautiful symphonies. What you're basically doing is bottling the music and making it into a liquid, so that when you the bottle or vile, the potion slowly evaporates into the air producing that beautifully angelic music that I had playing when you first walked in.

“Please take out your scrolls and quills and copy down these notes before actually beginning to create the potion. Also be very careful in following the directions. They are very specific and if you fail to follow them exactly, the music can be-er let's say, unsatisfactory.”

She walked over to the board and tapped it three times before words instantly appeared.

Acroama Elixir is known commonly as “bottled music.” While it is made with very little ingredients (one of the cheapest potions to make), those that are made well can sell for thousands of galleons. Due to the difficulty to make, a lot of people attempt to make this potion and are unhappy with the product.

Etymology
Acroama is Latin for music and Elixir is a term meaning potion. So quite literally the Acroama Elixir means potion of music.

How it works
The effects of this music work best when used in a closed off environment. As the music slowly evaporates from the bottle, the music that is trapped in liquid form begins to transform into sounds as it shifts into a gas. The gas lingers in the air for a very brief time (the time for the human ear to detect and process one note) before disappearing and being replaced with another note. Each bottle is usually one song and once all of the liquid has evaporated away, the song will come to an end.

The colour of the potion is directly related to the amount of stirs made at the very end. See the chart below:

Pink: 1 stir- classical
Red: 2 stirs- jazz
Yellow: 3 stirs- Rock and Roll
Green: 4 stirs- Dance/ Techno
Blue: 5 and a half stirs- hip hop/ heavy bass music
Purple: 6 stirs- country music

Procedure:
1. Place a cauldron filled halway with water over a flame and let sit for 5 minutes

2. Place three stands of unicron hair and two strands of centaur's tale into the cauldron. Let sit for a minute and stir clockwise three times.

3. Place a voice box of a mermaid into the cauldron. After about thirty seconds the potion will begin to start fizzing. As soon as you start to see the gas bubbles, stir until you see them disappear.

4. Add four toad vocal chords. Let sit for ten minutes.
5. See the chart above and decide which genre of music you would like to create. Stir clockwise for the desired amount of stirs.

Homework:

Answer True or false. You only need to write the word or letter.

1. Acroama's only purpose is to create beautiful symphonies.

2. This is an easy potion to make because regardless of how you make it, the potion will always sound beautiful.

3. This is one of the most expensive potions to make, that is why it sells for so much.

4. Acroama is Latin for the word “sing.”

5. When the potion is pink, you stir it three times and it creates jazz music.
